If you’re new ‘round these parts, first of all: welcome! I’m excited that you found my dark little corner of the internet. My name’s Nellie, and I’m just another creative obsessed with telling a story.

I keep saying this, but despite all the work I’ve put into the project thus far, it really is still early days; there is still a ton left to go before I launch issue 1, but I thought it prudent to give updates on the process for anyone interested or curious about what’s going on behind the scenes.

Currently, I am starting the illustration process for issue 3. The goal is to produce several issues (4 would be nice) by June 2024 so there is a steady backlog of work for me to lean on and I’m not sweating to crank out each issue last-minute. That’s what the pros do… right?  We’ll see how that goes!

In the meantime, I’ve been writing stories in prose to complement the comic. At first, it was an outlet for me to get immersed in the story in a far less restrictive way than what script writing has to offer. But then I thought, “Well, why not put these on the site too?” At this moment, what with my day job and the comic, I’m on track to publish a few of those along with issue 1.  Those will be focused more on lore and worldbuilding, so if you’re into that kind of thing you’ll have more to sink your teeth into. wink

That said, full disclosure: I’ve never made a comic before. This is an entirely novel process for me and the learning curve has been real. I usually have the unhealthy habit of setting super unrealistic goals and then emotionally flagellate myself when they aren’t met, but this time around has to be different. This is a project I’m invested in for the long haul. There needs to be sustainability. So for now, production will be slow. Sorry, not sorry.

So how’re you doin’ over there? Are you intrigued? Are you dubious? Repulsed? Totally indifferent? Bored as f***? Well, if you’re the first three then at least there’s some investment. And if that’s the case for you, then stick around. Creep my Insta or X. You don’t even have to follow if you don’t want. You’re an adult (I’m assuming… hoping). You can do whatever the hell you want. But if you do choose to stick around, then I hope you enjoy The Blacksleeves.
