The oligarchy known to djinnkind as the Wise Council begins their impossible search for their magicborne successors, using the ancient and mysterious technology of the At’r Haz. All the while, the fragile peacetime they’ve spent their entire lives cultivating between themselves and their subjects is now unraveling as a slew of brutal murders sends the public into a panic. In the midst of it all, a lowly slum rat struggles to shake off their painful past.

As a cunning smuggler encounters a tightening noose of suspicion and paranoia, every move he makes draws him closer to a point of no return. Stranded on a textile domain, Orenai exhausts her wiles to flee to Shattered Orbit, chasing the promise of escape as something she thought long buried begins to hunt her once more. Meanwhile, the Wise Council’s grip begins to falter as brittle potential alliances crack under the weight of their own ambition.
